---- — A Hobart man who worked for Covidien Healthcare has been arrested on drug possession charges, Delaware County deputies said in a May 24 media release.

Wayne A. Morse III, 26, was charged May 23 with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, all misdemeanors, deputies said.

Morse was issued tickets to appear in Stamford Town Court on June 11 to answer the charges.

Deputies said they responded to a complaint from security officers at Covidien Healthcare in Hobart and charged Morse, a former Covidien employee, for theft and possession of the manufacturer’s hydrocodone tablets.

The arrest of Morse is the result of increased security and employee monitoring being conducted by Covidien Healthcare, deputies said in the release. Covidien Healthcare security staff, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will continue to identify and prosecute those responsible for the diversion of pharmaceutical controlled substances.

In January, a former Covidien worker was charged with first-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and accused of smuggling hydrocodone out of the Hobart facility. At the time, Delaware County Undersheriff Craig DuMond said he believed the suspect had been the conduit for Hobart-based drug dealer Dante Major, 36, who was arrested last year and sentenced this year to 55 years to life in state prison.
