Big crowd sees Easter Bunny arrive

More than 100 people watched as the Easter Bunny and friends arrived at Lakefront Park aboard the Cooperstown Fire Truck on Saturday.

Andrew Rock, a teacher from Cooperstown Central School, led the parade dressed as the Easter Bunny, along with Mary Kuhn of Cooperstown, who was dressed as Mrs. Bunny.

They invited the families to follow them on a walking parade up Pioneer Street. Riding with them on the fire truck were Rock’s daughter, Erin Rock, 11; Julie Bohlm, 11; Tess Dilorenzo, 11; Lincoln Dilorenzo, 9; and Tara Dilorenzo, 7. The parade traveled to the Tunnicliff Inn, where the Easter Bunny and Mrs. Bunny visited with children, and refreshments were served.

Event coordinator Nancy Henriksen of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce said planning the event was “absolutely fun.”

“It’s been a lot of fun to get involved with the community,” said Henriksen, who started at the Chamber two months ago and is new to the area.

This was her first time planning an event in Cooperstown, she said, noting that, “I’ve met people who’ve been very helpful and friendly.”

Henriksen said she the event would not have been possible without so many helping hands.

“I’m just grateful for their willingness to help me today,” she said.

There were many volunteers who helped put on the event. Maria Noto, a volunteer from the Cooperstown Leo Club, said she enjoys volunteering especially when she gets to work with children.

“I like working with little kids,” Noto said.

Several families were attending the Easter parade for the first time.

Daphne Sorensen and her daughter Celia Petrie of Oneonta said they enjoyed their first Easter parade in Cooperstown.

“We love any opportunity to come to Cooperstown,” Sorensen said.

Sorensen said Petrie’s favorite part of the event was hugging the Easter Bunny.

“She was really excited to see the Easter Bunny,” Sorensen said.
