Toys For Tots Train
to make stops in area
The 14th annual Toys For Tots Train will visit the local area Saturday, bringing toys and other items to local children in need. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand with their elves to hand out toys and cookies.
This year’s train is being presented by the U.S. Marine Corps League. According to a media release, the train was formerly organized by the Marine Corps Reserve, but budget cuts closed the Reserve base in Scotia, leaving the area without a local connection to the program. The Electric City Detachment of the Marine Corps League, under the direction of Sgt. Robert Becker, has taken over those duties and will carry out the program this year.
The train will leave Binghamton at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, with stops in Bainbridge, Oneonta and Cobleskill. The train stops in Bainbridge, at 12:05 p.m., and Cobleskill, at 3 p.m., will include a Christmas party for children. The train will stop in Oneonta at 1:30. The train this year will distribute more than 12,000 toys, blankets, coats, hats and mittens throughout its run, the release said.
