No progress in finding dog’s owner
State police in Oneonta reported no developments Monday in the search for the person who left a dog along a roadside during the weekend.
The male mastiff was left at the side of Frank Slawson Road in Franklin, just off state Route 28. It was discovered Saturday by Julia VanSteenburg, animal control officer for the village.
She said she found the dog with bowls of water and food, adding that one of the bowls had been traced to a Marshall’s store in Ulster County, about 80 miles from where it was found.
The dog was taken to the Delaware County Humane Society shelter in Sidney. Several calls to the shelter Monday afternoon went unanswered, and shelter officials did not return a message requesting comment.
