Youth Ensemble to start 14th season

The Little Delaware Youth Ensemble, a regional string orchestra composed of young musicians, based in Oneonta, will begin its 14th season on Sept. 23. A new second group of young string players will be rehearsing across the hall under the musical direction of Jacqueline Cypress, a native of Oneonta.

Younger, less-experienced students ages 6 and older will be appointed by their teachers to join the Preparatory Orchestra. The hope is to help prepare less-experienced players to smoothly transition into the larger, more advanced group, according to a media release.

This idea has been kicked around the board room for years and with the help of an anonymous donation from a local foundation, it is possible to finally expand the platform, the release said.

Cypress is a former violin student of Julie Signitzer, founding music director of LDYE, and was a founding member of LDYE in 2000. She is completing her master’s degree in music education at the Crane School of Music and is a general music teacher at Schenevus school.

The community is welcome to Little Delaware’s winter and spring concerts as well as other announced open events on the group’s Facebook page and on www.ldye.org. In addition, violin, viola, cello, base and harp players ages 8 to 18 are welcome to audition.
