---- — OPT mulls fare hike

Oneonta Public Transit fare increases and other changes are pending in a plan proposed by the city, a media release said.

No fare increases have been made since 2009, and the proposed changes don’t affect regular routes inside the city of Oneonta, the release said. The changes are the result of costs for fuel and to maintain the fleet.

The Common Council will have a public information meeting in City Hall at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Seniors, aged 62 and older, may purchase an all-day pass for Oneonta city routes for $2, according to new adjustments, and paratransit passengers on a regular route will ride for free, the release said. Pick-ups or drop-offs in the town of Oneonta will be $1 above the regular fare, except for locations paying an access fee, such as shopping plazas and grocery stores.

The release said other proposed changes include:

• In the Cooperstown route, fares will increase by 50 cents to $3.50 for one way and $5.50 for round trip, with student and senior fares at $2 one way.

• Transfers from county bus routes will increase to $1 from 30 cents.

• Route deviation fee of $1 may apply.
