---- — A former city of Oneonta man has been as the result of a narcotics investigation by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Oneonta Police Department Detective Bureau, a media release from deputies said.

Jose David Quiles, 30, of Curtis Bay, Md., was charged Friday with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony, deputies said Monday.

In May 2011, crack cocaine allegedly was purchased from Quiles in the city of Oneonta, the release said, and in August 2011, Quiles was indicted by an Otsego County grand jury and a sealed indictment warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Sept. 30, 2012, Quiles was stopped by the New Jersey state police on the New Jersey Turnpike for traffic violations in Middlesex County, the release said. A subsequent computer license revealed that Quiles was wanted by Otsego deputies.

New Jersey state police arrested Quiles as a fugitive from justice, and he was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center. Investigators arrested Quiles on the warrant at the corrections center in North Brunswick, N.J., and he was transported to the Otsego County jail.

Quiles was arraigned on the drug charge on Monday afternoon in Otsego County Court before Judge John Lambert. Quiles posted $25,000 bail.

Quiles, who is to re-appear in court at a later date, faces up to nine years in prison if convicted of the drug sale, the release said.
