Wood: No date set for moratorium vote
No date has been set for the Oneonta Town Board to vote on a proposed extension of a moratorium on drilling for natural gas, the supervisor said Thursday.
The board listened to comments about the proposal and hydrofracturing during a public hearing Wednesday that lasted an hour. Most speakers opposed fracking or urged the board to extend the moratorium, which expires April 2.
A motion to set a meeting date to vote on the extension failed in a 2-2 vote. Wood said he plans to seek a date that would allow at least five days’ public notice.
In other business during the meeting in Town Hall in West Oneonta, the board said a Boy Scout Jamboree could be held in Fortin Park on May 17 to 19, but no parking or driving would be permitted on the fields and campfires would have to be along the fields’ perimeter.
