---- — Three members of an Otego family have been arrested by Otsego County deputies and accused of cultivating marijuana and possessing it around children.

Marvin J. and Vicki L. Barron, both 43 and of 1942 county Route 8 in Otego, were arrested Monday, along with their son Jonathon J. Barron, 24, of 16 Averill St., the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

Investigators and deputies acting on a tip Feb. 27 discovered a marijuana growing operation inside the house at the elder Barrons’ address, authorities said. They found 72 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, approximately 10.5 ounces of marijuana, a digital scale and $1,200 in cash, the sheriff’s office said.

Two children under the age of 6 were at the house during the investigation, deputies said, adding that they had access to marijuana and marijuana smoking paraphernalia.

The Barrons surrendered themselves at the OCSO on Monday morning and were all issued appearance tickets returnable in the Otego Court, the sheriff’s office said.

Marvin and Vicki Barron were charged with controlled possession of marijuana in the third degree, unlawfully growing of cannabis by an unlicensed person and endangering the welfare of a child.

Their son, Jonathon, was arrested for unlawfully growing of cannabis by an unlicensed person and endangering the welfare of a child. He faces up to a year in the county jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

Caseworkers from the Child Protective Services Unit of the Otsego County Department of Social Services assisted with the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
