A new organization to help people affected by kidney disease will get its start Sunday with the official kick-off of the Kidney Club of Oneonta.
Bassett Healthcare Network and the Northeast Kidney Foundation will host a reception at the Hampton Inn to mark the formation of the club. The event is free and will begin with a reception at noon, followed by presentations and discussions through 3 p.m. A nurse practitioner who has worked with nephrology patients for 15 years; the executive director of the Northeast Kidney Foundation, and a home hemodialysis patient will be among the presenters. Food and refreshments will be available.
“Living with chronic kidney disease has its challenges but you are not alone,” said Marge Nezelek, a licensed social worker with Bassett.
Nezelek noted that, while there are Kidney Clubs in Albany, Buffalo, and Springfield, Mass., “by establishing a Kidney Club in Oneonta, individuals in our community will find it easier to network and support one another as well as learn more about living well with kidney disease.”
The snow date for the event is April 21.
