Two women have accused of more than $12,000 in welfare fraud in connection with running a day care business, Chenango County deputies said.
Amey Suwarrow, 28, of South New Berlin, and Gertrude Bullock, 64, of Mount Upton, were each charged March 18 with third-degree welfare fraud and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, felonies, deputies said.
The women are accused of submitting day care time sheets to the Department of Social Services that contained false information, resulting in over payment of day care assistance, deputies said in a media release. The fraud amounted to $12,181.84 between November 2010 and April 2012, deputies said.
The defendants are to appear in court at a later date.
Deputies were assisted by members of the Department of Social Services Fraud Investigation Unit.
