---- — The Oneonta Redistricting Commission will have a public hearing Monday on the proposed map of realigned wards.
The hearing will be at
7 p.m. in the Common Council Chambers in City Hall, 258 Main St., according to a media release.
Commission members and consultant Joshua Simons of the Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach at the State University College at New Paltz will be present to review the plan and answer questions.
The proposed final redistricting plan is online at https://sites.google.com/site/oneontaredistricting.
The redistricting proposal later will be returned to the Common Council for a vote for final approval.
The Redistricting Commission, which was formed this year, was charged by the City Charter to apply the principles of “one person, one vote,’’ and of the federal and state constitutional equal protection clauses.
The city’s ward lines haven’t been adjusted since the city adopted eight wards instead of six in the 1970s.
The commission used the most recent U.S. Census figures to develop a plan that puts the city in compliance with the law.
