'Bounty of the County' to aid Schoharie relief efforts

A cornucopia of local foods and other products will be at the center of a pair of events that aim to promote Schoharie County goods and raise funds for flood recovery efforts.

Schoharie Area Long Term will present two “Bounty of the County” events this weekend: a chef’s dinner on Saturday and an artisans’ market and brunch on Sunday. Both events will highlight locally produced food and crafts, and will benefit SALT, the lead agency coordinating flood recovery efforts for those affected by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in the Schoharie Creek basin and surrounding area.

Saturday’s inaugural Bounty of the County Chefs’ Dinner, at the Carrot Barn in Schoharie, is presented in cooperation with the state Comptroller’s office and the Albany Chefs’ Food and Wine Festival Board of Directors. Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli will serve as the honorary chairman of the dinner.

The six-course meal will feature ingredients from The Carrot Barn, Wellington’s Herbs and Spices, Barber’s Farm, Bohringer’s Fruit Farm, Shaul’s Farms, Mariaville Farms, West Wind Acres, Parson’s Farm, and Sunnycrest Orchards. The six chefs preparing the meal will be Will Brown of the Glen Sanders Mansion and Mansion Catering in Scotia, Tim Gates of the Charles F. Lucas Confectionery & Wine Bar in Troy, Mark Graham of Max London’s in Saratoga Springs, Dimitrios Menagias of The City Beer Hall in Albany, Ian O’Leary of The Ginger Man in Albany and Yono Purnomo of Yono’s/DP: An American Brasserie in Albany.

The event will also include live music and an auction featuring fine art, artisan crafts and access to experiences and events, such as a catered private dinner for 12, and tickets to performances at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Sunday’s brunch will be served from 10 a.m. to noon on the lawn of Daughters of the American Revolution’s Lasell Hall at 368 Main St. in Schoharie, featuring locally sourced and produced ingredients.
