Crash victim was in cardiac arrest
An 88-year-old Middlefield man died following a one-car motor vehicle accident on state Route 166 in the town of Middlefield on Friday, Otsego deputies said.
Douglas J. Olmstead apparently had a cardiac event that caused him to lose control of his vehicle, deputies said. A patrol deputy found the vehicle at about 3:20 p.m. and Olmstead was unresponsive and in cardiac arrest, deputies said.
CPR was started at the scene and emergency medical units from Cooperstown and Middlefield Fire Department and the county Office of Emergency Services responded to the scene to assist. Olmstead was transported by the Cooperstown Fire Department to Bassett Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival, deputies said.
