Week in Review: Time Warner to hike rates, fees

In sports: Jordan Beers just wanted to have fun Wednesday night. It’s safe to say the area scoring leader had a blast then.

Senior guard Beers finished with a game-high 24 points, the bulk of her damage coming in the first half, to lead the Franklin girls basketball team to a 39-30 Section Four Class D semifinal victory over South Kortright in a battle of undefeated state-ranked powers at Oneonta State.

FRIDAY

A New Lisbon parolee was arrested again Wednesday on numerous charges stemming from a January search of his property that yielded a pharmacopeia of drugs, as well as guns, stolen goods and an untagged deer.

Also: New York’s Child Health Plus program is misunderstood, according to several local parents who utilize it.

In sports: Brad Zeh described the mood as somber. Sophomore Albert Odero used words such as emotional and speechless. Senior Mariah Ruff said the news was devastating. Jerry Mackey, the passionate coach who in many ways is the face of Oneonta High athletics, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis earlier this week.

Also: Matthew Finne had to sweat one out Thursday at Oneonta State. But making two foul shots with a sectional-championship appearance on the line turned out to be no sweat for the junior point guard, who helped the Davenport boys basketball team to a 46-37 victory over South Kortright in a Section Four Class D semifinal.
