Woman accused of forging checks

State police at Cobleskill arrested a Schoharie county woman on Friday for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from her employer.

Valerie A. Ingraham, 43, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony, troopers said. Troop G Public Information Officer Trooper Mark Cepiel said Ingraham, of Esperance, was hired in 2012 to assist individuals with day-to-day living at a private residence in the town of Middleburgh. While working there, Cepiel said, Ingraham allegedly forged checks from her employers to herself totaling more than $17,000.

Cepiel said troopers began investigating the incident in early January after a relative of the victims noticed financial discrepancies and contacted state police.

Ingraham was issued an appearance ticket, Cepiel said, and is set to appear in the Town of Middleburgh Court on Wednesday.
