Sex offender charged with undisclosed move

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a high-risk sex offender from Portlandville, accusing him a failing to inform a state agency within 10 days of that his address had changed.

Derreck A. Vosburgh, 31, of 2872 Route 28, was arrested Wednesday, when he attempted to register at the sheriff’s office south of Cooperstown, a press release from the office said.

When officials reviewed his application, they determined that Vosburgh had moved to the area in early October and had failed to inform the state Division of Criminal Justice Services about the move within the required 10 days, according to the release.

Vosburgh previously lived in Utica. He is a Level 3 sex offender, which the state describes as having a “high risk of repeat offense and a threat to public safety exists.” As such, he is required to register his address for life.

He was convicted in 2006 of sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl, according to the state sex offender registry.

Vosburgh was arrested under the state correction law and was issued an appearance ticket returnable in the Middlefield Court later this month. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.
