Week in Review: HOF picks give local business optimism

In sports: Oneonta High’s Lucas Chiappisi and Jimmy Verrelli won by decision to tie the score in the early going Tuesday, but Windsor won the next five bouts en route to a 57-21 wrestling victory in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference.

THURSDAY

Anita Cardinale is a 78-year-old retired nurse who had come to look forward to the hot meals delivered to her Springfield home on weekdays. Now, as the result of a cost-saving move imposed by the Otsego County Board of Representatives, the only meals being brought to her are frozen, and an entire week’s worth arrived bundled together once a week, on Monday.

In sports: Every Delhi player who entered Wednesday’s non-league boys basketball game had a basket as the host Bulldogs topped Midstate Athletic Conference rival Walton, 63-57.

FRIDAY

Most Otsego County residents are now living in communities that have enacted bans or moratorium against gas drilling.

This week, the town of Butternuts approved a ban on shale gas drilling and storage, with a 3-2 vote of the town board, Butternuts Town Supervisor Charles Eckelmann said.

By another 3-2 vote earlier in the week, the town of Hartwick approved an eight-month moratorium against all heavy industry, including gas drilling.

Also: Area schools are safer today than at the time of the Newtown school shootings, officials interviewed about the subject said Thursday.

Saturday will mark the one-year anniversary of the shootings at the Connecticut elementary school, in which 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 students, six administrators, his mother and himself.

In sports: Seth Arnold, Nicholas Jump and Kai Sabada won by pinfall Thursday to lead Sidney to a 46-33 Midstate Athletic Conference wrestling victory over visiting Delhi.
