Local village gets consolidation grant

The Daily Star

---- — Local village gets consolidation grant

The village of Middleburgh was one of four municipalities to be awarded a total of $44,433 in state Citizens Reorganization grants. The funds are for the planning and implementation of projects designed to streamline local government services and save taxpayer money, according to a state media release.

Middleburgh will be reimbursed for expenditures incurred as a result of the filing of a voter-initiated petition calling for a referendum on village dissolution.

Middleburgh Mayor Matthew Avitabile said in the release: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Middleburgh to discuss all opportunities, especially consolidation, for a fiscally responsible local government.”

The Citizens Reorganization and Empowerment Grant, part of the Local Government Efficiency Program managed by the Division of Local Government Services, is designed to provide funding assistance to local governments to plan for and implement municipal consolidations.

Other municipalities receiving funds were in Madison, Saratoga and Tompkins counties.
