Group to discuss school reform
Education reform in New York state will be the topic of two one-hour discussion sessions hosted by a local church group.
The issues class of the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta will present public forums on recent reforms proposed for public education in New York state on Friday and Saturday. According to a media release, the forums are being presented to raise awareness about the issues and to discuss their merits.
The proposed reforms include focusing on a “common core” curriculum; increased teacher accountability; and increased standardized testing.
The one-hour sessions will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Albright Room in the church’s lower level. Entrance is through the courtyard entrance. The church is at 66 Chestnut St. Child care will be provided.
