A Richfield Springs man was charged with kidnapping after Ilion village police said he hid in his estranged wife’s care and held her at knife-point.
Cory J. Boepple, 48, of 19 Langdon Ave., was charged Thursday with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, aggravated criminal contempt, all felonies, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, police said in a media release.
Boepple hid in his wife’s vehicle until she left work, police said, and as she was driving home, Boepple placed his arm around her from the back seat and threatened her with a knife.
The woman was able to alert a witness, who then called Ilion police, the release said.
Based on the vehicle’s last known direction of travel, Ilion and Mohawk village police were able to stop the vehicle on state Route 5S in Mohawk and take Boepple into custody without further incident, police said.
The woman was treated for unspecified injuries at Little Falls Hospital, police said.
Boepple was arraigned in Ilion Village Court and sent to Herkimer County jail in lieu of $30,000 bail or $60,000 bond.
