A former Oneonta man was arrested on felony charges Friday morning for punching a correctional officer in the head, according to Otsego County deputies.
Michel Steven Harabet, an inmate at the Otsego County Correctional Facility, was being escorted by correctional officers on Jan. 20 when he intentionally struck the male correctional officer with his fist. The punch did not injure the officer, deputies said, but Harabet, 43, was indicted in late January by the Grand Jury.
On Friday morning, Harabet was arraigned by County Court Judge Brian D. Burns and charged with second-degree attempted assault, a felony, deputies said. Harabet was sent back to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $15,000 bail. If convicted of the charge, he could face up to four years in state prison, deputies said. He will reappear in County Court on April 4.
