In local sports, Oneonta State junior J.D. Roth was selected as the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Male Indoor Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday. Roth is the first field athlete in men’s program history to earn the honor.
Assemblyman Bill Magee, D-Nelson, said he approves of a component in his house’s budget plan that would legalize medical marijuana in New York state, but Clifford Crouch, R-Bainbridge, said he doesn’t feel his constituents would support such a change. Other highlights of the budget include cost-of-living pay increases for human service providers, an increase in school aid and tax relief for homeowners and farmers.
In local sports, Oneonta State’s softball team made short work of two opponents Thursday with a pair of mercy-rule victories during the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. Catcher Brianna Rivera went 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and two runs to lead the Red Dragons to a 10-0 rout of Rockford University in five innings.
