---- — Sheriff’s office investigates gun sale
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated the sale of a shotgun between two men who couldn’t legally possess a shotgun under state law, a media release said.
Austin R. Demuth, 18, of Colesville, and Eric W. Carpenter, 32, whose address wasn’t given, were each charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, deputies said.
Broome County deputies assisted in the arrest of Demuth, who was charged March 16 on an arrest warrant.
Demuth was arraigned in Oxford Town Court and sent to Chenango County jail on $500 bail, pending a later court date.
Carpenter, who was arrested March 21, was arraigned in Norwich Town Court and sent to Chenango jail on $5,000 bail, pending appearance in Oxford Town Court at a later date.
The release didn’t specify who owned and who sold the shotgun.
Also in the case, deputies charged Nadine A. Button, 34, of Norwich, on March 11 with making a punishable false written statement for allegedly providing a sworn statement about the incident that she knew to be false. She was issued a ticket to appear in Norwich City Court at a later date.
