---- — Nassau County man killed in hunting accident
A Nassau County man died in a hunting incident in Otsego County at about 10:20 a.m. Saturday, state police at Oneonta said.
Charles Bruce, 52, of Franklin Square, was shot in the chest and died at the scene in woods adjacent to Steve Braun Road in the town of Westford, troopers said in a media release.
Troopers are being assisted in an investigation by the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office and the state Department of Environmental Conservation. No other details were available Sunday.
Saturday was opening day of the 2013 regular deer and bear hunting seasons in the local Southern Zone.
Police seek tips in sex crime case
State police at Cobleskill have arrested a man in a sex crime case involving two underage girls and are seeking more information from the public.
Santo Misciagna, 19, of Richmondville, was charged Nov. 14 with two counts of criminal sexual act, a felony, and sexual misconduct, a misdemeanor, in response to a complaint that he was engaging in sexual activity with underage girls, troopers said in a media release.
Misciagna allegedly invited two underage females to his Richmondville residence twice and engaged in sexual conduct with the victims both times, the release said. Misciagna was arraigned in the Cobleskill Town Court and sent to Schoharie County jail without bail.
Troopers ask anyone with information about Misciagna’s activities with underage youths to call (518) 234-9401 or (518) 630-1712.
Guilford man charged in sex crime
A Guilford man was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into allegations of sexual contact with a person less than 11, state police at Sidney said.
Mark Crawford, 46, was charged with second-degree criminal sexual act, a Class C felony and endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor, troopers said. The arrests followed the investigation by state police and Chenango County Child Protective Services. Crawford was arraigned in the Guilford Town Court and sent to Chenango County jail on $20,000 bail, troopers said.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the state police at 561-7400.
Former student charged with cocaine sale
On Nov. 7, Delaware County sheriff’s deputies arrested Gregory J. Nielsen, 20, of Port Jefferson, on a Delaware County grand jury sealed indictment charging him with two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
Nielsen, a former SUNY Delhi student, was accused of selling cocaine in the village of Delhi during February and March, deputies said. Deputies charged Nielsen in March charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after the execution of a search warrant at his residence that led to the seizure of cocaine, digital scales, marijuana and cash.
This month, Neilsen was arrested when he surrendered at the sheriff’s office, appearing with his attorney. Nielsen was arraigned before County Court Judge Carl F. Becker and was released on recognizance pending further court action.
Two charged with pot possession
Two East Worcester residents have been arrested on marijuana possession and other charges, state police at Oneonta said.
Elizabeth M. Roettger, 38, and Christopher A. Roettger, 40, were charged with unlawfully growing cannabis, fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, more than 2 ounces, and endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors, troopers said.
Elizabeth M. Roettger also was charged with grand larceny, a felony, troopers said in a media report.
