The glamorous gala musicals of the 1930s and ‘40s will provide the theme for a fundraiser to benefit the Roxbury Arts Group on Thanksgiving weekend.
Tickets are on sale now for “Holiday Inn,” a dinner dance to be held at the Roxbury Arts Center at 7 p.m. Nov. 30. According to a media release, “ticket holders will be transported back in time to the golden age of swing and glamour.”
“We had a terrific 2013 season and we hope that everyone who enjoyed the programs will come to ‘Holiday Inn’,” RAG Executive Director Jenny Rosenzweig said in the release. “Fundraising events such as these, provide the critical support that is needed that allows us to offer high quality programming in the schools and community we serve. We are looking forward to a great evening and everyone is invited.”
The event will include songs from films such as “Easter Parade” and “White Christmas,” as well as other music of the 1930s and 40s. Roxbury-based caterers ate-o-ate catering will provide hors d’oeuvres and canapes appropriate for the era, and other refreshments will be served. The setting will be completed with ice sculptures, hat check girls and decorations inspired by the film “Holiday Inn.”
A highlight of the evening will be live music for dancing by Wendy Nief & Friends Combo of the 1930s and 40s. According to the release, “Nief fronts the band with her emotionally charged, wide-range voice as Mark Lubell on piano, Alice Pantaloni on bass and a guest drummer join her.”
Those who attend the fundraiser are invited to wear period clothing. Jill Ribich of Catskill Images will be on hand to photograph guests and provide pictures for a fee.
Tickets, at $40, can be purchased by calling 326-7908 or visiting roxburyartsgroup.org. The Roxbury Arts Center is at 5025 Vega Mountain Road in Roxbury.
