---- — A report on “Diversity in Oneonta” is on the agenda for the city’s Commission on Community Relations and Human Rights meeting at 7 tonight.
The commission will meet in Common Council Chambers at City Hall, 258 Main St.
Joyce Miller, commission chairwoman, said the report by Alexander Nowakowski, a summer intern, was presented at a meeting in August.
In September, the report was discussed and based on percentages, it was concluded that Oneonta cannot be promoted as a “diverse community,” though there is agreement that “there are many more people of color in Oneonta than there used to be,” she said.
The report is on tonight’s agenda in case there are additional comments, Miller said.
Miller said other topics before the commission include exploring training ideas for “safe space” for the LGBQT community. Of particular concern is how they are treated in the bars and businesses of Oneonta, she said.
The commission also is looking for ideas about having a community meeting that allows for conversation about diversity, she said.
The commission’s next meeting will be Dec. 5.
