---- — A regional agency is offering up to $150,000 in matching funds to not-for-profit entities in the Southern Tier, including Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie counties.

The Southern Tier East Regional Planning Development Board, a government body, is accepting funding requests for the 2015 fiscal year to help the region’s economy.

The funding is being offered through the Appalachian Regional Commission’s Area Development Program. According to a media release, local not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, industrial development agencies, school systems and other public entities may submit proposals that meet one of the following goals:

• Increase job opportunities and per capita income

• Strengthen the capacity of people to compete in the global economy; or

• Develop and improve infrastructure to make the region economically competitive.

To receive funding, organizations must be prepared to match the grant amount dollar-for-dollar with cash or in-kind goods and services. Proposals can include expanding existing programs, but not sustaining them without any modifications, according to the release.

More information about the program is available online at www.steny.org, or by calling Lolene Cornish at 724-1327, ext. 201. Proposals are due May 5.

According to its website, Southern Tier East is “a special-purpose unit of government” that “relies upon the cooperation of its members with input from a range of local, regional and state leaders, as well as global experts to provide technical and financial assistance in supporting local initiatives and projects.”

Partners include the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the state Association of Regional Councils.
