---- — A Sherburne man was arrested Tuesday after police found him to be in possession of a substantial amount of heroin and cash.

Chenango County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dustin J. Norris, 31, after executing a no-knock search warrant at 5 p.m. Tuesday at his residence on South Main Street in the village of Sherburne, deputies said.

Norris’ vehicle, which was parked at the village’s Big M, was also searched. The search warrant was part of a lengthy investigation into the sale of heroin in Chenango County, deputies said.

During the search of Norris’ vehicle, police found heroin and cash that was close in proximity to two young children in the car, deputies said. Deputies then found needles, packaging material and other paraphernalia at Norris’ residence.

Norris was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child, deputies said. He was arraigned in Sherburne village court and sent to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail.

The Norwich Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration assisted with the investigation, which is ongoing, deputies said, and more arrests are pending.
