Observer: 2012 drier, warmer than normal
Weather in 2012 was drier and warmer than normal, National Weather Service observer in Emmons David Mattice said. He made several observations about area weather as part of his year-end review. The pattern was in contrast to what 2011 brought to the area, he said.
Normal yearly precipitation is 39.36 inches. In 2012, the total was 37.31 inches. This is in contrast to 2011, which was the wettest on record at 60.55 inches. Snowfall in 2012 was 52.3 inches, with 23.3 inches in December alone. In 2011 snowfall was 108.7 inches.
The yearly mean temperature is 45.6 degrees. The mean temperature for 2012 was 47.8 degrees, he said. The comparable figure for 2011 was .7 degrees above the norm.
