Former motel manager
faces felony charge
A former motel manager has been arrested on a felony charge after allegedly cashing a check from the business, Otsego County deputies said.
Kyle Jay VanDewerker, 24, of Oneonta, was charged Thursday with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor, deputies said in a media release. He was accused of possessing and cashing a $600 Amber Life Inn Motel check dated Jan. 3, 2012.
VanDewerker, a former manager at the motel, allegedly cashed the check June 26 in the city of Oneonta, deputies said.
The owner of the Colliersville motel had contacted deputies in September regarding another crime, the release said, and an audit of its books revealed that checks had been stolen and one had been cashed at a local bank.
An arrest warrant was issued by Oneonta city Court, the release said, and VanDewerker turned himself in to the deputies’ office Thursday. He was arraigned in Oneonta City Court on Friday, when bail was set at $250, deputies said. He is to reappear in court today.
