Sidney voters OK 2 school propositions

The Daily Star

---- — Voters in the Sidney Central School District passed two propositions Tuesday, a media release from the superintendent said.

Proposition No. 1, to spend $7.7 million to install new athletic fields, new boilers and renovate the auditorium, passed, 539 to 321, Superintendent William Christensen said.

Proposition No. 2, to establish a capital reserve for 10 years to not exceed $1.5 million, passed by 587 to 272. The reserve fund will be used to maintain equipment and repair aging facilities.

“We were very pleased with the results, but most importantly I am very pleased with voter turnout,’’ Christensen said in the release. “The district has only had between 400 and 500 voters in most proposition and budget votes — to nearly double that number is incredible.”

Project design will begin immediately, though phasing of the project hasn’t been set, he said.
