Delhi to vote on school improvements project

Staff Report
The Daily Star

---- — Voters in the Delaware Academy and Central School District at Delhi will go to the polls Feb. 12 to decide on a $7.75 million building project. Polls are open noon to 8 p.m. in the middle school lobby. The snow date is Feb. 13. A public hearing on the project is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at the middle school/high school auditorium.

With state aid and debt reserves set aside for such work, if approved it would not require a tax increase, Superintendent Jason Thomson said. The project calls for repairs of roofs, parking lots and driveways, as well as replacing the deteriorating middle school gym floor and security enhancements. The latter includes increasing the number of cameras and improving entryways to better keep our children safe.

The details of work are still being finalized, so the breakdown of individual project costs were not yet available, he said. But if the school doesn’t take care of this work now, it will only cost more later, Thomson said. The district is fortunate that the board set aside reserves to pay for the local share of the work, he said.
