A Gilboa resident was shot and killed Oct. 24 by Nevada police officers after fleeing in his vehicle, following a traffic stop, and firing shots at police near Winnemucca, Nev., according a media release from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office
John Robert Dellafiora, 46, was pursued west on Interstate 80, after the stop, by police from several agencies, deputies said. He eventually left his vehicle and immediately fired rounds at the responding officers, striking two patrol vehicles.
Shrapnel struck and injured a K9 enclosed in a kennel inside one of the patrol vehicles, according to the release. Police returned fire and the driver subsequently died as a result of his injuries, deputies said.
No officers were injured during the incident. The K9 was assessed at an area animal hospital and released.
