SUNY Oneonta Distinguished Teaching Professor John H. Relethford is author of a new textbook, "Human Population Genetics," a media release from the State University College at Oneonta said.
The book is an introduction to the study of population genetics, the release said. The text is designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students and is part of publisher Wiley-Blackwell's "Foundations of Human Biology" series.
Relethford, a 30-year veteran of the college's faculty, has written more than 170 publications. He has received awards including the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1994-95, the SUNY Oneonta Susan Sutton Smith Prize for Academic Excellence in 1995 and the SUNY Award for Research and Scholarship in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in 2002. In February, he was elected chairman of the Anthropology Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world's pre-eminent general scientific organization, the release said.
