Otsego deputies: Two major area heroin dealers arrested

Drug stings last week netted what Otsego deputies said are two major area heroin dealers.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, working with Oneonta Police Department detectives and the Utica office of the state Division of Parole, charged Leo J.R. Moore, 23, of Worcester, and Kasia M. Jurczyk, 22, of Bozrah, Conn., with felony drug possession charges.

OPD Detective Brandon Collison received a tip Nov. 17 that Moore would be traveling from Worcester to Oneonta with a load of heroin, according to a media release from deputies.

Moore was located by OCSO investigators and OPD detectives in the Oneonta Walmart parking lot, and 186 glassine envelopes with more than 5 grams of heroin were found in his vehicle's trunk, deputies said.

The value of the drugs is estimated at $3,720.

He also allegedly had $380 in cash. Deputies later searched his home in Worcester and allegedly found another glassine envelope containing heroin and two suboxone pills. Moore was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The next day, sheriff's deputies and parole officers searched an apartment on county Route 11 in Hartwick and seized 45 glassine envelopes containing heroin valued at $900, as well as two grams of marijuana valued at $20 and $1,350 in cash, according to the release.

Jurczyk, who had recently been staying in the apartment, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Moore was arraigned in Oneonta Town Court and sent to Otsego County jail on $50,000 bail. Jurczyk was arraigned in Hartwick Town Court and sent to the county jail on $25,000 bail.

They are scheduled to return to court next month for further proceedings.
