Schoharie County Sheriff Tony Desmond, an outspoken critic of new gun control legislation advocated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was endorsed for re-election Monday by the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Political Victory Fund.
The group said it is urging all gun owners to back Desmond in the November general election.
“Our endorsement is based upon his public opposition to the so-called SAFE Act and willingness to speak out against Gov. Cuomo’s assault upon 2nd Amendment rights,” the organization said in a statement.
Desmond is being challenged for re-election by Cobleskill Police Chief Larry Travis and Deputy Todd Ethington.
