---- — A student returning to Ithaca College after the Thanksgiving break was killed when he lost control of his car while swerving away from a deer that entered Interstate 88 in Cobleskill, State Police reported Monday.
Michael Clark, 21, of Boxborough, Mass., was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-car mishap that happened at 9:51 p.m. Sunday as he and three students riding with him were headed west on the highway, troopers said.
Ithaca College identified Clark as an English major in his junior year.
The three other occupants of the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe were admitted to Albany Medical Center for treatment of various injuries from the crash, police said.
The college identified them as Christopher Rose, a marketing communications major and a sophomore, Ezra Chamberlain, a theatrical production major in her junior year, and Melanie Pond, a speech pathology major and a junior.
A gathering of the Ithaca campus community will be held at 6 tonight so students and faculty can share their thoughts and prayers in the wake of the tragedy, Marisa Kelly, Ithaca’s vice president of educational affairs said in a posting on the college’s website.
