Local candidates for the state and federal legislatures will debate in Oneonta today and next week.
The League of Women Voters of the Oneonta Area is host to the debates, scheduled for 7 p.m. today and Oct. 24 in Morris Hall at the State University College at Oneonta.
Tonight’s debate will feature Assemblyman Bill Magee, D-Nelson, and his opponent, Republican Levi Spires, from 7 to 8:15 p.m., followed by Sen. James Seward, R-Milford, and his opponent, Democrat Howard Leib. The Oct. 24 debate will feature Congressman Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, and his opponent, Democrat Julian Schreibman.
The debates will be televised on public access Channel 23 and streamed live online at www.lwvoneonta.org. The candidates will answer questions from a panel of moderators and from the live and viewing audiences. Moderators for tonight’s debate will be Emily Popek of The Daily Star, Jim Kevlin of Hometown Oneonta, and Ted Muehl from Townsquare Media. The Oct. 24 debate will feature Sam Pollak, editor, representing The Daily Star.
