Body identified as that of Norwich woman

Krista Kosowsky had been missing since Friday

The body of a woman found in the town of Norwich this week was identified as Krista Kosowsky, 51, who had been reported missing since Friday, city and state police at Norwich said today.

An autopsy conducted today revealed no trauma or injuries, and the cause and manner of death are undetermined, pending toxicology reports, troopers and Norwich police said in a media release. Dr. James Terzian at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton conducted the autopsy.

Kosowsky's body was found just off of abandoned railroad tracks in the town of Norwich on Wednesday, the release said.

The body was recovered by state police divers after it was located by three Norwich police officers who were being assisted by a police dog.

At about 8 a.m. Wednesday, in an area at the back of the Wal-Mart in Norwich, city police, state police and state forest rangers began a second day searching many acres of flooded fields for Kosowsky, a media release said, and at about 9:30 a.m. the body was found near the railroad right-of-way a short distance from the city's wastewater treatment plant.

Kosowsky of Norwich was last seen Friday, police said, and she didn't report for her job that day in Clinton. Police said she was a diabetic who reportedly did not have her insulin with her when she went missing.

Authorities confirmed that Kosowsky's husband, Gary D. Kosowsky, is a former public school science teacher who served prison time after being convicted of giving poisoned candy to fellow teachers at the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk school district in Albany County in 1992.
