---- — Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting said Friday he is discouraging local citizens from conducting their own searches for Jennifer Ramsaran, the 36-year-old mother of three who has been missing since Dec. 11 under suspicious circumstances.
"They could very well destroy evidence," Cutting told The Daily Star.
Ganesh Ramsaran, the missing woman's husband, told The Daily Star he was not involved in what had been a plan by local residents to conduct a search in Plymouth on Sunday. Ganesh Ramsaran said he is cooperating with law enforcement and will abide by any requests made of him.
"My family and I have done everything the sheriff and law enforcement have requested us to do," he said.
The husband has created a Facebook page — “Jennifer L. Ramsaran - Missing Person” — aimed at spurring public interest in the case in what he said is an attempt to locate her.
The search effort had been announced on another Facebook page dealing with the case, though the husband said he has no involvement with that page or the people who have since called off the planned search.
"We don't want to impede the investigation in any way," said Ganesh Ramsaran, a project manager for IBM.
Ganesh Ramsaran helped authorities find his wife's IPhone on Dec. 12, using a software application designed for locating missing cell phones.
On Dec. 16, outside an apartment building in Norwich, Thomas Renz, the missing woman's father, located the Chrysler minivan Ganesh Ramsaran said his wife took for a drive to a Syracuse mall the day she disappeared.
A friend of the family, speaking on the condition of anonymity, has said that Jennifer Ramsaran frequently played online games with strangers.
Investigators are still awaiting her telephone records, Cutting said Friday.
"We're following all leads," the sheriff said. "It's still an open case for us."
In December, State Police and sheriff's investigators spent four days combing the Ramsaran house and surrounding property for any possible evidence.
The couple's three young children were in school at the time Jennifer Ramsaran left the house to go to the mall, the husband told police.
Cutting said Ganesh Ramsaran, a marathon runner, continues to be cooperative with investigators.
