Program seeks public input on history

Area stakeholders representing local history are invited to an upcoming meeting to begin work on the governor’s “Path Through History” program.

A meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 31 to discuss the plans for the Mohawk Valley region Path Through History. The initiative, launched by the governor in August, will pair a network of road signs highlighting historic people, places and events, with a $1 million grant program to promote tourism in 10 regions. The Mohawk Valley region includes Otsego and Schoharie counties.

The meeting, which will take place at the Arkell Museum in Canajoharie, is open to the public, but organizers said in a media release that input is particularly being sought from people involved with tourism and local history throughout the region. Registration is required by Monday; to sign up, contact Helen Martin at, (518) 762-7638 or (518) 705-7587.

The Arkell Museum is at 2 Erie Blvd.
