The Daily Star

---- — Two Edmeston residents were arrested Jan. 25 on drug charges following the afternoon execution of a no-knock search warrant, Otsego deputies said.

The warrant was issued following a narcotics investigation by deputies and Oneonta police that began after deputies received several complaints on the tip line about suspicious activity at 16 Burdick Ave. in Edmeston, which housed a barber shop and residence.

Thomas Nathaniel Tukalo, 28, who lived at that address, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and operating a barbershop without a license, misdemeanors; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Alysia Nicole Johnson, 20, was charged with criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors.

Tukalo, a self-employed unlicensed barber, was prohibited from operating a barbershop and was charged after deputies, police and county probation officers seized the following: 69 glassine envelopes of heroin, about 10 grams of marijuana, $1,255 in cash, two electronic scales, a box of glassine envelopes, a stolen Edmeston town street sign, hypodermic syringe and a glass pipe used to smoke drugs.

He was sent to Otsego County jail on $25,000 bail and faces up to 12 years in jail on the felony charge. Johnson who was visiting Tukalo at the time of the search was found to be in possession of a hypodermic syringe and a glass pipe and was jailed on $1,000 bail. She faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
