---- — The Oneonta City School District Board of Education had several personnel issues on the agenda of its regular Wednesday meeting, according to Superintendent Joseph Yelich. This included accepting the resignation of board member Rosalie Higgins, effective Sept. 14.

Higgins, who was not at the meeting, was contacted by telephone Thursday. She said she’s stepping down now to spend more time with family. She said she served for six years and really enjoyed it, even though there were some tough decisions. She added that she appreciated the support she had from the community and said it was a pleasure working with the board members, and that she hoped to attend some future meetings as a spectator.

Superintendent Joseph Yelich said Higgins is well-respected, and will be missed. The board plans on posting a resolution at its Aug. 28 meeting for a replacement. Applications will need to be submitted by the close of business Sept. 11, and the board hoped to make an appointment by Sept. 25.

In order to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of high school English teacher Michael Morelli, who is moving to be closer to family, the board is calling back Melissa Brockway, a high school English teacher who was placed on the preferred eligibility list when staff was cut because of a tight budget.

The termination of high school teacher English teacher Brian Fronckowiak, which was also scheduled because of budget cutbacks, was rescinded because of other staffing changes effective Sept. 1.
