Of the three Oneonta City School District Board of Education members whose terms are expiring this year, only one said he is definitely seeking re-election.
While Bill Grau said he will be seeking a second term, Marilyn Rosas said she will step down after her first term is completed. She ran when the board needed a candidate, and she said she is glad she did.
“It is a wonderful experience that everyone should try,” she said. She wouldn’t rule out running at a later time, but with her husband — Unatago Central School business manager Nicholas Rosas — considering retirement in the next few years, she said she does not want to quit in the middle of a term.
Board President Grace Larkin said she is circulating a petition, but after 12 years on the board, she said she is undecided whether to seek re-election. She still feels its an important service to her community, Larkin said, but she will wait and see if any new people will be running before she turns in her petition.
Completed forms for the May 21 ballot are due by 5 p.m. May 1 in the district office. For more information, call district clerk Eileen Lishansky at 433-8232, ext. 300.
