---- — The 2013 CGSUNY Fall Classical Guitar Festival will begin Saturday at the Fine Arts Building on the campus of SUNY Oneonta, with two sessions of recitals by members of the Classical Guitar Society of Upstate New York.
The headline performer at 7 p.m. Saturday will be lutenist Paul O’Dette. A reception will following the program.
O’Dette is professor of lute and director of early music at the Eastman School of Music and artistic director of the Boston Early Music Festival.
As in past years, there will also be a silent auction held in conjunction with the Saturday evening performance. A reception will be held after the concert.
Festival events on Sunday will begin with a Collegiate Honors Recital at 1 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church.
This program features students from colleges in New York as well as students from Hartwick and the State University College at Oneonta.
The featured performer for the Sunday afternoon concert will be Pablo Cohen. Cohen graduated from Temple University with a Doctor in Musical Arts degree.
He has received numerous prizes and awards for his performances in national and international competitions. More recently he received the Music Teachers National Association Award for his outstanding teaching.
Cohen is the head of the classical guitar program at Ithaca College and an affiliated artist at Cornell University.
Other events include a program by CGSUNY members and a master class. The weekend will feature eclectic repertoire of classical guitar music.
