A Morris teenager was arrested after fleeing authorities in on all-terrain vehicle, Otsego County deputies said Thursday.
John A. Gardner III, 16, was charged Saturday with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana and multiple vehicle and traffic violations, deputies said in a media release.
Gardner was driving an ATV at a high rate of speed on sidewalks and streets in the village of Morris, the release said. When deputies tried to stop him, Gardner fled southbound on West Main Street onto the Morris Central School athletic fields and then into the Olds Road area.
Gardner was located a short time later leaving the wooded area, deputies said, and he refused to identify himself and fought with authorities.
Gardner was arraigned in Morris Town Court and sent to Otsego County jail on $1,000 bail. He posted bail Oct. 15 and was released, authorities said.
