Cooperstown venues to host series of films

Glimmerglass Film Days, sponsored by Otsego 2000, will take place Friday through Sunday throughout Cooperstown.

The weekend of high-profile films is curated by Peggy Parsons, founder and director of the award-winning film program at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Films will be shown at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, The Fenimore Museum, and other “pop-up” venues in the village of Cooperstown.

Early bird pricing is available online www.glimmerglassfilmdays.org or at Otsego 2000 office in Cooperstown through today for films, also the opening and closing parties and live events.

Festival-goers will meet filmmakers and artists who are coming to Cooperstown to present their work.

Lech Kowalski, a veteran filmmaker, will present "Drill Baby Drill" at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fenimore Art Museum. The documentary captures what happens when 50 Polish farm families stand up against Chevron, and contrasts their story with events in Pennsylvania, where drilling is now a fact of life.

Peter Rutkoff, an award-winning teacher and writer, will present "Cooper on Film" at a farm-to-table brunch at 10 a.m. Sunday at Templeton Hall. Rutkoff, who chairs the American Studies program at Kenyon College, will lead an open- ended discussion of “The Three Faces of Hawkeye: Silent in 1920, Vibrant in 1936, Resplendent in 1992," a look at famous film versions of James FenimoreCooper’s novel, “Last of the Mohicans.”

Following the discussion, Rutkoff, a longtime summer resident of Cooperstown, will sign copies of his work, including “Cooperstown Chronicles," his short-story collection. Ticket availability is limited.

Other films will include "Harmony," at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, "Drums Along the Mohawk" at 9 p.m. Frriday at Templeton Hall; "Field of Enchantment" at 1:30 p.m. at the Fenimore Art Museum; "River and Tides" at 1 p.m. Sunday at Fenimore Art Museum' "Chasing Ice" at 3:30 p.m. at Fenimore and "More than Honey" at 6 p.m. at Fenimore.
