Organizers are setting their sights on a number — $1.5 million — for this year’s Otsego County Relay for Life. And they could use your help.
The annual event to benefit the American Cancer Society will be May 16 and 17 at the Cooperstown Dreams Park. The local event is nearing $1.5 million mark in all-time fundraising, according to a media release.
The Planning Committee has already begun work to make this year’s event the third consecutive year of record-setting fundraising, and teams are being formed. In its 16th year, the Otsego County event will take “Sweet Sixteen: A Celebration of Hope and Progress” as its 2013 theme, with a fundraising goal of $117,500.
Teams are now forming. Past team captains and those interested in forming a team for this year’s event are invited to attend Warm Up, Relay’s kick-off event, scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Wednesday is the snow date.
Relay For Life is an overnight celebration whereby pre-formed team members take turns walking around a track “relay” style. The event also includes ceremonies honoring survivors, and other activities. Fundraisers are held in the months leading up to the event.
