Two men have been accused of stealing railroad spike plates, according to state police at Cobleskill.
Troopers said that on May 31 they responded to a report of a gold-colored Pontiac driving east on the Canadian Pacific right-of-way at Raven Road in the town of Richmondville, according to a June 10 media release.
At the scene, troopers said they saw a male subject loading CP railroad spike plates into the trunk of a tan Pontiac Grand Am with another man, who was in the driver’s seat. Troopers arrested the men without incident, and the materials were recovered.
Troopers charged Eric S. Markwardt, 32, of Dolgeville, and Matthew E. Victor, 36, of Salisbury Center, with third-degree criminal trespass and petit larceny, misdemeanors.
The men were released on tickets to appear in Richmondville Town Court court at a later date.
